Watch out for all those bitter folks in the crowd, Barry -- they tend to cling to things [Open Thread]

Courtesy of Roll Call($) comes this wonderful report:
Obama May Campaign at NASCAR Races
Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) in the coming weeks may become the first Democratic presidential nominee to attend a NASCAR stock car race in 16 years, his campaign confirmed today.
“We would love to make it to a NASCAR race if the schedule permits,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki told Roll Call Thursday afternoon. “In the meantime, we plan to continue campaigning in communities across the country including small towns and rural communities where people are dissatisfied with the leadership of the last eight years and looking for a new direction for the country.”
The sight of Barack Obama attempting to mingle with a demographic he so publicly despises and looks down on should be an interesting one indeed. Further, the entertainment value provided by liberal elites who try to do "normal people" things is practically endless, as the two scenes below from the 2004 campaign remind us.

By the way, anybody remember the wonderfully eloquent attempt to blend in just before the hunting trip chronicled above by asking, "Can I get me uh huntin' license here?"
Delicious. I can't wait to see what Obama tries to do to blend in with these bitter hayseeds who are always clinging to guns and religion.

Something tells me he won't find too many kindred spirits there.

What does he plan to do at this NASCAR event? Give out the trophy? I can see it now. Jeff Gordon wins the race according to the officials, but he decides that it would upset the netroots so he decides to give it to Dale Earnhardt (Jr?).
Oh wait.
I forgot.

I was in Hartwell today and I need to go back early next week. I was looking for some good talk radio since "Rock 101" isn't what it used to be anymore. I ended up listening to WLHR 92.1 FM (Lavonia-Hartwell-Royston), the new country station.

I can only hope that Johnny fired the gun in that stance. OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! My arm!
I'm not sure BO is constitutionally capable.
He'll have to stand and pray with tens of thousands of Christians.
Then he'll have to cover his heart with his hat or hand during the National Anthem.
I find it somewhat unsettling that NASCAR would even consider enabling such a political stunt by either candidate, to tell you the truth.
If BO were to perform from one of the high-dollar suites, it would be a complete non-event.

First on Communism, the theory is "From each according to his means to each according to his needs" but it seem in practice this becomes "From those who do to those who won't."
On the issue of gun ownership, I've heard the argument that guns are a deterrent to tyranny attacked because armed citizens couldn't possibly hold out against the US Military. But it seems these same people are the ones that make the argument that the US Military can't defeat a determined insurgency. I just find that somewhat contradictory.
Yeah, I wonder what he is actually going to do there?
I kind of hope he goes. Could be some priceless photos. After all, most of the folks there won't be fans of his. Someone should walk around with a sign that has his quote about how we can't keep driving our SUV's and still have the world like us.

Take Tony Stewart and Barack Obama and put them in a room and lock the door for one hour. The only rule is that there can't be more than 15 consecutive seconds of silence between them at any time.
I'd pay $39.95 to see that on pay-per-view, even if I knew the proceeds would go to Obama's campaign.

First, I doubt very seriously he could get up to speed when they drop the green flag. Supposing that he could, he'd put his own flipping *self* into the wall about halfway through turn one.
I know it doesn't really look like it on TV, but driving race cars is *hard.* Not only in terms of skill, but also in terms of requiring serious physical exertion.

For goodness sakes, who could stay cooped up on one of those things for 3 hours/500 miles and be able to walk afterwards....not to mention the stress of driving an inch from the next guy's bumper at 180MPH. And fighting that steering wheel does NOT look easy.
Like Neil says - the guy can't even bowl....

The season just opened on Cheney and I think he sees him...
and Indianapolis, Watkins Glen,NY, or New Hampshire might be friendlier territory for him over the next few weeks.
Cup Races are EXPENSIVE and the people in the stands, at least in the good seats, are more likely to be business people, mid to upper management, or bureaucrats than good old boys who work at a factory and drive a Chevy pickup.
We went to the Daytona 500 last year and the three day ticket, qualifying, practice, and both Cup races was over $300 each, though they were very good seats. Then there's the getting there and staying there for a few days.

I wish I could talk about the others. Lets just say they relate to the joys of having government run Healthcare and how well it works. This is still far and away the best.
