California Gets Less Competitive

Governor Schwarzenegger is raising the minimum wage to $8/hr, up from $6.75 and approaching double the federal rate. Leave it to the California Democrats to have wanted something even worse though, according to the Chronicle:

[Assembly Speaker] Núñez confirmed that the governor has agreed to support AB2068, the workers' compensation bill [that would prevent employers from being able to choose doctors who treat workplace injuries], but said it was separate from the minium wage legislation, which calls for a 75-cent increase in January 2007 and an additional 50-cent increase in January 2008. Previously, Núñez and his Democratic colleagues wanted a $1 increase, plus indexing.

Of course, what does this compromise achieve? It just gives the Democrats more of an immediate raise than they wanted, but keeps the seat warm for a Democratic governor and legislature to come back next year and add in the annual raises, too!

If some businesses don't fail, it'll only be because the Democrats hinder their own policy with their foolish support of illegal alien labor. A rock and a hard place, this state is stuck between.

Minimum Wage by rainwolf

Two years ago, New York State instituted a mandate for minimum wage increase. As a fine dining restauranteur, I paid my waitstaff the typical minimum wage for servers that is an earning in the business mainly to cover employment taxes on their "tips or gratuities" which typically ranged between $25-$30/hour worked. Due to this wage increase and the additional employment taxes they incur, I and many other fellow restaurant owners have now gone out of business. Expect nothing less in California.

Arnold is doing everything he can to get not elected... as of now he's really not getting my vote. The only thing he has going for him is he is not Angeledes.. not a strong platform.

The economy may not be competitive, but I suspect the election will be.

(r)nold is giving me more and more reasons to stick to my position of not voting for him. My friends give me grief, DO YOU WANT ANGELIDES? No, i don't, but i'm not going to vote Against someone, i vote for a person. I don't buy into this lesser of two evils nonsense, i am perfectly content on sitting this election out. After all, it is a state election.

Save the planet, Kill yourself

that increase will not bring actual starting wage up to the market price in most of Kalifornitopia.

And where it does, it will kill jobs. It is win-win.

Are you rooting for economic disaster?
